Ginger Blackstone
Harding University Associate Professor, HU16-TV News Director
Searcy, Arkansas
Interests: Live TV production, streaming, the news industry, Cultivation Theory, framing, social media, broadcasting, digital platforms, and sometimes political media (when I'm not thoroughly disgusted by it).
I received my Ph.D. from the University of Florida (2016). I oversee a live student-produced daily newscast with a small staff and a shoestring budget; and I teach broadcast, journalism, and research classes.
I used to work in management at CNN, produced for a bunch of local news stations before that, and I've recently freelanced for The Weather Channel. I also serve on the Board of Governors for the NATAS Mid-America Emmys and NBS/AERho: The National Electronic Media Assn. On top of this, I try to squeeze out at least two research projects per year.
I love to see students land the media job of their dreams. I hate it when the working conditions are so toxic that they leave the industry after two years. This industry needs smart, ethical, talented people more than ever.
