2021 BEA On-Location

In a time of contracting budgets and staffing, many local news outlets are partnering with their local universities to produce storytelling projects of regional impact. Student journalists and professional journalists work together to produce public-facing work that shines a light on local problems or issues. We showcase and explore two examples of such recent projects from 2021: "The Road to Freedom Avenue: The Legacy of Harry and Harriette Moore,'' a multimedia production about America's first civil rights martyrs and their legacy and inspiration to those engaged in America's ongoing racial reckoning that was jointly produced by UCF's Nicholson School and WUCF-TV, Orlando's PBS affiliate; and "My TV Network,'' a joint partnership between Buffalo State College and the Buffalo Broadcasters Association, a collaboration of teachers, students and former professional broadcasters.
